Here's my contribution to the wealth of info on the Web. Let's face
it, there are THOUSANDS of them, which can never be a bad thing for the
folk who like to travel. The likes of Lonely Planet and the Rec Travel
Library are well famous for their detailed info across the world.
However,
some of the best information around is to be found in personal
travelogues.
Rec
Travel Library and the Travel
Report Ring have some good ones and my
own contributions are to be found HERE .
The links in bold are some of my favourites, but the others also contain some useful stuff as well. And don't forget, when you're done - please COME BACK!!
Happy surfing

| "there are places in the world where
one is
mysteriously magnified on arrival or departure by the emotions of all
those
who have arrived and departed before... It is a sadness we do not
experience
today: our journeys no longer take years to complete, we know exactly
where
it is going, and our chances of coming back are so much greater." Cees
Nooteboom in Roads To Santiago This is one statement made by Tan WeeCheng, a Singaporean who's travels have inspired a fantastic site of World Travellogues covering Europe, Asia, South America, North Africa and the Middle East. Take a look and be impressed... |
| BLUEDOME is the site for outdoor enthusiasts, covering just about every topic imaginable: Fell walking, climbing, MTBing, Dog Sledding and trans-Australian wheelchair racing to name but a few. It must be worth a look. |
The NORTHUMBRIAN
MOUNTAINEERING CLUB has a wide-ranging UK and foreign links page.
Well

Here's a site that caught my eye, a personal web page by Pete
Jones.
His page follows similar lines to this one, covering his interests in
Caving,
Fell Walking & Mountain Biking with lots of piccies thrown in for
good
measure. There's also something about oil rigs...!? |
Vagabondo , named after an Italian brown bear, has been set up by some folk in Rome and is a good, general site dedicated to the outdoor life. Among other things are various links to walking, trekking, climbing and mountaineering sites across the world. General sections and country-specific sections guide the would-be traveller to his chosen destination with ease. It's also one of the few modern sites lacking processor-intensive JavaScript - this in no way, though, makes it any less interesting. Take a look and see for yourself.
cannylink.comhas a long list of worldwide tour operators, which may be useful for anyone trying to find that elusive 'local' company.
- Tangent Expeditions focuses entirely on major climbing and ski-touring expeditions to Greenland.
Arctic Experienceset out many moons ago, specialising in Icelandic travel. Now they have branched out to the entire Arctic &Subarctic region and, with Discover The World, now offer 'wildlife' holidays globally.
Arctic Adventure is a Danish tour operator specialising in out of the ordinary trips to Greenland &Iceland. Excellent service. An offshoot - ARCTIC ADVENTURE EXPEDITIONS aim to offer a comprehensive and rewarding experience. One of the guides is a personal friend and I'm sure this will prove to be an interesting venture.

ICELAND
http://www.icelandictravels.f9.co.uk/ has 17 chapters and tons of photos covering a trip around Iceland in 1999 by 3 lads and their cameras. An excellent read and a good insight into Icelandic travel, weather and scenery. A must read :o) A personal website that REALLY rocks looks primarily at the author's travels on Iceland at http://www.casema.net/~erens/iceland.htm . There are details of his trips over a number of years, with photos, including his trip in 1996 to Snæfellsness & the Westfjords
